The Norton Dam is a small gravity dam built across the Kehelgamu Oya, a major tributary to the famous Kelani River, creating the Norton Reservoir. The water from this reservoir is channeled through a tunnel in the rock strata, which ultimately leads to the Old Laxapana Hydroelectric Power Station.

Thousands of pilgrims make the journey every year to pay homage to this relic at the Esala Perahera. Surrounded by the Kandy Lake, this bustling city is rich in cultural diversity, handicrafts, ancient temples and is a transit point to the cultural triangle.
Fondly known as “Little England” by the former British colony, the city bears resemblances to the climate, flora and fauna and pristine environment of Great Britain, with its vaguely British-country-village feel and colonial-era bungalows. Dedicated to Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, the Seetha Amman Temple is treated with enduring devotion as it is considered to be the place where King Ravana imprisoned Sita, 5000 years ago. It is also rumoured as the place where Lord Hanuman’s feet rested following the battle to rescue Sita from Ravana. The stream that runs from the hill is believed to have catered to her needs throughout the duration of her stay.
Gifted by Englishman William Scott in 1878, Christ Church at Warleigh is located near the hamlet of Dickoya. The tombstones of the first planters from Britain to settle in the country extend behind the chapel, with sloping green fields of tea folding into the river in the background. A scene both morbid yet beautiful.
